Kansas-Nebraska Act
What were the terms of the Kansas-Nebraska Act?
It allowed each territory to decide the issue of slavery on the basis of popular sovereignty.Kansas and Nebraska territories were created.

Why was it proposed or why was it necessary?
It was proposed to encourage westward movement because they wanted to expand the United States and start settling the west. They also wanted a transcontinental railroad.

Who proposed it?
Senator Stephen A Douglas of Illinois.

Why were antislavery northerners angry about the Kansas-Nebraska Act? In what way did the act violate the Missouri Compromise?
The Missouri Compromise said that new states that were north of the 36°30′ latitude are free states. Kansas lies above this line but because the Kansas Nebraska Act says that Kansas can chose whether or not they wanted slavery through popular sovereignty. Antislavery northerners were mad because they didn't want slavery above this line.
